As recommended by WHO, by 2020, Vietnam is required to have at least 1 optometrist for every 50,000 people. Currently, in Vietnam, there are only 13 optometrists for over 93 million people.
In order to to have a comprehensive and best eye care for Vietnam people, Brien Holden Vision Institute has collaborated with local partners to build and develop an optometry training program for Vietnam.
The first Optometry batch started in 2014 with 18 students in University of Pham Ngoc Thach. In 2015, the second batch is recruited in Hanoi Medical University. The first graduated optometry students are from University of Pham Ngoc Thach in 2018. We are expected to see a leap forward in eye care service in Vietnam. We are striving for vision for everyone- everywhere.
